Summer in the Son

“You are the light of the world.  A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.  Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16, NIV.

Summer.  This is a time for relaxing.  School is out.  With the exception of a few special projects, churches usually spend time enjoying a break too.  It is vacation season; time for the lake, the beach, the mountains, family and friends both near and abroad.  Enjoy!

Church attendance usually dips during the months of June, July, and August.  It’s pretty normal for all churches to experience this.  Given everything I’ve listed above, how could this drop possibly be avoided?  I personally don’t think it can.

This summer, all I ask is that you prepare to spend time in the Son.  In the midst of vacations and such, our responsibility as a witness does not take a break.  We are still accountable for our thoughts and actions.  What good deeds are you planning for the summer?

The sun is a bright thing that shines over all of us most days.  It warms us and lights our paths so we can clearly and easily find our way around in our day-to-day life.  The Son is the Light of our life.  By the gift of the Holy Spirit, Jesus keeps our spirits refreshed and relaxed and also shines on our spiritual paths so that we can clearly and easily find our way around in our day-to-day life with Christ.

This summer, bask in the Son.  Let your light shine so brightly that everyone you encounter, no matter where you go, will clearly see the light of Christ shining through you.  You will not draw attention to yourself, but instead, the reflection of your life will clearly show a picture of Jesus Christ Himself.  Enjoy!
